Au vieux Spijtigen Duivel

For those who love historic cafés and restaurants, a visit to “Au vieux spijtigen duivel” (or “Spytighen Duyvel”) in Uccle is a must. With a history dating back to the 18th century, it is one of the oldest in Brussels. Its most famous literary patrons include French poète maudit Charles Baudelaire (1821–1877), French poet and novelist Victor Hugo (1802–1885), and Flemish poet Jan van Nijlen (1884–1965). Part of the building was destroyed by fire in the early 1950s, but enough lovely, authentic elements remain to warrant a visit. We have been here twice for a drink and have always enjoyed the atmosphere. The restaurant menu offers a mix of Belgian classical dishes, pastas, and salads, but we haven’t eaten there yet, so we can’t comment on the food.

Tout roule mais il manque un peu de sincérité et d&apos;authenticité dans le service et les assiettes. Un adresse agréable cela dit avant ou après un spectacle a Forest National.

Le cadre de cet établissement est très "cosy" (hormis le fait que les wc - sales - se situent au froid dans une cour extérieure...) et le personnel est poli et avenant. La carte des bières est bien fournie et vaut le détour. Par contre au niveau cuisine les choses se gâtent. La qualité est mauvaise pour ne pas dire médiocre : cotés d&apos;agneau (à 24€ quand même) d&apos;un goût douteux et aubergines farcies... fourrées avec des petites pâtes grecques (alors que ce n&apos;était pas indiqué sur la carte). Pour y boire une bonne bière, cet établissement est vraiment sympa. Par contre pour y manger c&apos;est une autre histoire...

The hotel is very "cosy" (except the fact that the toilets - sales - are cold in a courtyard ...) and the staff is polite and nice. In contrast, the food level is a disgust. Quality is bad to not say bad: sheep coats (at 24€ anyway) with a doubtful taste and rough aubergines ... furnished with small Greek pasta (when this was not indicated on the map). This hotel is really nice to drink a good beer, but to eat c&apos; is another story ...

Flop and top service.

Client régulier depuis plusieurs années , nous ne sommes jamais déçu  !  un passage obligé pour nous au moins une fois par semaine .  Excellent qualité/prix ! 

Service et qualité prix imbattable !
